GKI SCHOOL • GARDEN KIDS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
A Comprehensive International Education
From Early Learning Through High School
The GKI Academic Foundation
At GKI SCHOOL, our curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong academic foundation, meaningful learning experiences, and the skills they need to succeed in an increasingly global world. Founded in 1998, GKI SCHOOL offers a continuous educational pathway from Early Learning and Preschool through Elementary, Middle School, and High School. Our programs combine academic rigor, language development, technology, creativity, character formation, and college preparation within a diverse and supportive international school community.
GKI SCHOOL is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) and officially recognized by the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD). This dual framework supports both international academic expectations and the requirements of the Dominican educational system, helping students prepare for future studies in the Dominican Republic and abroad.
Middle States Association (MSA)
Accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, upholding premier worldwide academic standards.
Ministry of Education (MINERD)
Officially recognized by the Dominican Republic Ministry of Education, fulfilling all national graduation requirements.
Early Learning and Preschool
Early childhood education at GKI SCHOOL provides a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where children begin their educational journey. Our early childhood programs focus on developing the whole child through exploration, play, movement, language, and structured learning routines that nurture curiosity, independence, and social-emotional development.
Toddlers & Early Preschool
Our youngest learners explore through the Creative Curriculum, an inquiry- and play-based framework that supports sensory exploration, communication, fine and gross motor development, social interaction, and early independence.
Pre-Kindergarten
Children continue with the Creative Curriculum while building stronger school-readiness skills, including early literacy, phonemic awareness, mathematical thinking, scientific discovery, and collaborative play.
Kindergarten Gateway
Students begin a more structured academic experience using materials from the recognized Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) curriculum for Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. This stage bridges early learning with primary education by strengthening reading readiness, foundational math concepts, critical thinking, and independent work habits.
Early childhood learners also experience early English immersion, introductory STEM and robotics experiences, art, music, and physical education to encourage confidence and well-rounded growth.
Elementary School
In Elementary School, students build strong academic foundations while developing intellectual curiosity, study skills, and collaborative abilities. Instruction is designed to be engaging, structured, and focused on helping students understand concepts deeply rather than simply memorizing facts.
English Language Arts
Through the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) curriculum, students develop comprehensive reading comprehension, phonics, vocabulary, spelling, and expressive writing skills.
Mathematics
Using HMH Mathematics, students strengthen numerical fluency, problem-solving, logical reasoning, and real-world mathematical applications.
Science
Hands-on exploration, observation, and scientific inquiry guide students to understand the natural, biological, and physical world.
Social Studies
Students study geography, world cultures, global communities, and historical perspectives to cultivate thoughtful civic awareness.
Multidisciplinary Elementary Integration
Elementary students also participate in Spanish Language Arts aligned with Dominican educational standards, French language instruction starting in Grade 5, technology integration, STEM and robotics, art, physical education, and character education programs that foster respect, responsibility, and leadership.
Middle School
Middle School represents an essential transitional period during which students deepen their critical thinking skills, expand their academic independence, and prepare for the demands of high school.
Students engage with more specialized and challenging coursework across core disciplines:
During these years, instruction emphasizes analytical reading, structured written communication, laboratory investigations, project-based learning, and technology-driven problem solving. STEM and robotics continue to play an active role, helping students connect classroom concepts to practical engineering and coding applications.
High School
High School at GKI SCHOOL prepares students for successful transition into higher education and future careers. Our high school program combines rigorous academic coursework with college-readiness preparation, leadership development, and character education.
Students complete a comprehensive curriculum that satisfies both international preparatory expectations and national graduation requirements:
Literature, Social Studies & Languages
English literature, academic composition, world and Dominican history, economics, government, advanced Spanish, and French language mastery.
Mathematics & Laboratory Sciences
Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, computer technology, and high-level STEM/robotics design projects.
College & University Preparation
High school coursework emphasizes analytical thinking, research papers, laboratory experiments, and independent study. In addition, students participate in standardized assessments such as MAP Growth and have access to PSAT and College Board-related opportunities to guide their college and university planning.
Languages and Global Learning
Language proficiency is central to the GKI educational experience. We prepare students to communicate confidently in multiple languages while developing cultural understanding and global perspectives.
English Immersion

Athletics and Multipurpose Sports Program
Physical education and athletic participation are vital elements of student development at GKI SCHOOL. We believe that physical activity supports academic focus, emotional well-being, teamwork, and healthy lifestyle habits.
Our athletic program utilizes both designated sports spaces and flexible, multipurpose court facilities to provide students with exposure to a wide variety of sports throughout the year:
By rotating athletic disciplines and adapting school facilities for multiple sports, GKI SCHOOL ensures that students stay active, develop coordination and athletic skills, and experience both cooperative and competitive sports environments.
Teaching, Assessment, and Student Growth
Great education happens through intentional teaching. Our faculty uses a combination of explicit instruction, inquiry-based learning, hands-on activities, and educational technology to ensure students understand key concepts and can apply their knowledge.
MAP Growth Assessments (Kindergarten – Grade 12)
To monitor learning progress and maintain high academic standards, GKI SCHOOL administers NWEA MAP Growth assessments from Kindergarten through Grade 12. These internationally recognized computerized assessments measure student growth in reading, language usage, and mathematics, providing teachers with actionable data to personalize instruction, support students who need reinforcement, and challenge advanced learners.
More Than a Curriculum
At GKI SCHOOL, education is about more than textbooks and exams. It is about helping students become capable, compassionate, and resilient individuals. Through academics, sports, the arts, robotics, and school life, we strive to inspire:
